At-home depression study using your phone

Join the Mirai Depression Study with your smartphone to test the effectiveness of an investigational mobile app to help further manage depression.

  • Between the ages of 22-64
  • U.S. Resident
  • Able to speak and read English
  • Diagnosed with depression and have been on medication for at least six weeks
  • Own and are the primary user of an Android or iPhone smartphone

Participating can help researchers better understand whether the digital therapeutics within the  Mirai Study App help_outline The Mirai Study App will provide participants with one of the two digital therapeutics being investigated in the Mirai Depression Study. are possible treatments for depression. If qualified, you will continue to take your prescribed medication and will be assigned to one of the two  digital therapeutics help_outline App-based therapy people can access from a smartphone.within the Mirai Study App. During the study, you will:

Complete exercises

In the first 2 weeks, you’ll complete 3 practice brain exercises in the Mirai Study App.

Check-in with a Study Doctor

You’ll have video chats and phone check-ins with the Study Doctor regarding the use of the Mirai Study App, your medication and health.

Talk to a medical professional

You’ll conduct phone interviews with a mental health professional.

Use the Mirai Study App help_outline The Mirai Study App will provide participants with one of the two digital therapeutics being investigated in the Mirai Depression Study.

You will use the mobile app for up to 10 weeks.

Take surveys

You’ll answer questions about your depression symptoms and health.

In this study, the researchers want to learn more about an app, called the “Mirai Study App help_outlineThe Mirai Study App will provide participants with one of the two digital therapeutics being investigated in the Mirai Depression Study.”, participants who are already taking an antidepressant medication for their symptoms. Participants will download the Mirai Study App onto a smartphone. The app has two digital therapeutics. A digital therapeutic is a new type of therapy that people can access through software downloaded onto a phone. In this study, the Mirai Study App, containing two investigational digital therapeutics, will undergo evaluation to provide potential therapy for depression symptoms.

Otsuka is the sponsor of this study.

The study lasts up to 13 weeks.

Project Baseline is a broad effort to better understand health and prevent disease. This study is a part of the broader initiative to better understand new possible treatments for depression.

You need to own and use an Android smartphone (OS 9.0 or greater) or an iPhone (iOS 13.0 or greater).

You will receive the Mirai Study App help_outlineThe Mirai Study App will provide participants with one of the two digital therapeutics being investigated in the Mirai Depression Study., the Project Baseline App, your antidepressant medication, and all study related tests at no costs to you while you are in the study. In addition, you may be reimbursed up to $350 to cover the costs associated with being part of this study, including cellular data charges, through a payment service.

An at-home (or remote) clinical study is one in which you can fully participate at your home. You will be assigned a study doctor who will conduct study video and phone visits with you.

Your identity and medical information will be kept confidential. We take your privacy and confidentiality seriously. A Google account is required to join this study and while Google provides the computing, analytics, and data handling power, Google will not sell your information. All your information will be stored in a secure, encrypted database with restricted access. We will not share any information with your insurance or medical providers without your consent.
